Ride Beyond 100 Miles
Calendar

When I first put this site together a few years ago, there were few opportunities to ride beyond 100 miles, and most of those occurred in the spring. Now I'm glad to say this list has expanded greatly to include a number of rides that occur in the summer!

Still, If you ride all spring and summer and get yourself into shape where you would like to attempt to do a double Century, you will have to travel to another part of the country. In October of 2000 I flew out west and rode in the Death Valley Double. You can find a number of Double Century ride calendars in my Ultra Marathon Cycling links.

Below is the list of rides in New England that are currently available that go beyond 100 miles. Some of these rides are club rides where you may either have to join that specific club, or contact specific ride organizers to get the information that you need. Don't expect any large support system for these rides. Only a small handful of riders (10 to 15) usually attempt these distances on these unsupported club rides. Ride organizers (rightly so) will not be willing to take on a bunch of beginner riders. These rides are for those who are in good shape and know that they can complete the distance. So you need to be in shape and prepared, carry a cell phone and lights, have a friend or relative available in case you need to bail out. Don't expect all the perks that you have on your normal Century ride.

Here is my experience on a double Century that I completed:
In July of 2001, I did the Petersham Double Century, that was run by a member of CRW. The route was not arrowed, and there were no supported sag stops. Sag stops consisted of convenience stores located along the route, and noted on the cue sheets. There were only about 10 riders that attempted the ride that day, and I believe only 3 of us completed it. We started at 5am, and I completed the ride in the fading light at 9pm. When I arrived at the start/finish point no one was there to greet me. Which I fully expected! I called the Cel phone number of the organizer, just to inform him that I completed the ride and that I was OK.
