Recumbent Cycling

After completing my first Century ride on an upright bike in 1998, I promised never to do it again. So I bought my friends Vision VR44 Recumbent bike, and have been happily completing Centuries ever since.

Why? The following list sums it up for me: (I grabbed the list below from some other site, I wish I had the link to give them credit, but I don't, sorry)

Why a recumbent?
A RECUMBENT SEAT is more comfortable than the narrow styles of standard road bikes.

OVERALL RIDING POSITION creates a comfortable, heads-up riding posture that lets you see the world around you without the neck and shoulder strain associated with conventional bikes.

RECUMBENT HANDLEBARS are located above the main frame in a very natural position that takes the strain off your shoulders, wrists, and hands.

YOU CAN GO FAST IN (yes, it says "in") A RECUMBENT if you choose. Recumbents go faster than standard bicycles because of the natural aerodynamics. Fact: Recumbents hold all the land speed records in IHPVA sanctioned events.

...and the best one of all:

RIDING A RECUMBENT can lead to a fun, social lifestyle.

Since I am a independent consultant doing computer programming, I cannot afford to get carpal tunnel syndrome, or any other problem that will prevent me from making a living. A recumbent bike allows me to do something I love, without the additional pains brought on by upright bikes. Sure my legs may still hurt, but that is it.
